The 3D 5.5″ Light Purple Foam Pad is the most versatile pad in 3D’s lineup and the pad to use for a one-step polish. It also refines the paint after cutting. It’s sold as a single pad and also comes in 3.5″ and 6.5″ sizes.
Three Pads Cover Most Jobs
With so many pad types, sizes, and colors out there, picking pads can get confusing. 3D keeps it simple: for most people and most detailing jobs, you only need three pads. The Dark Purple is for cutting, the Light Purple Foam Pad is for polishing, and the Black is for finishing.
One Light Purple Foam Pad, Three Jobs
This pad covers light cutting, medium polishing, and even fine finishing, just by changing the product. That range means fewer pads to buy and fewer pad changes in the middle of a job.
For light cutting, pair the Light Purple Foam Pad with a 3D compound such as 3D ACA 510 Premium Rubbing Compound, or with 3D 505 Correction Glaze.
For normal polishing, or final polishing on harder paint, use 3D AAT 502 or 3D ONE.
One-Step Correction With the 5.5″ Light Purple Foam Pad
Short on time? This pad and 3D SPEED or 3D 505 handle a one-step correction, polishing out light defects in a single pass instead of three. Test a small section first to see whether a one-step will get the paint where you want it before you do the whole car.
When to Use the 5.5″ Light Purple Foam Pad
For most jobs, this is your one-step pad. When the paint needs more, cut first with the 3D 5.5″ Dark Purple Foam Cutting Pad, then polish with the Light Purple Foam Pad. It becomes the middle step only when you add a finishing polish with the 3D 5.5″ Black Foam Finishing Pad, which is normally done on soft paint.
It works on any polisher: rotary, long-stroke, short-stroke, free-spinning, and gear-driven (direct drive). Keep the pad clean between panels, since dried polish in the foam can mark the paint on your next pass.
