The 3D 5.5″ Black Foam Finishing Pad is the finishing pad in 3D’s three-pad system, made for the last pass that brings out gloss and clarity. It gives little to no cut. It’s sold as a single pad and also comes in 3.5″ and 6.5″ sizes.
Three Pads Cover Most Jobs

When to Use the 5.5″ Black Foam Finishing Pad
In a multi-step job, it’s the last step. Cut with the 3D 5.5″ Dark Purple Foam Cutting Pad, polish with the 3D 5.5″ Light Purple Foam Pad, then finish with the Black Foam Finishing Pad.
A finishing polish step is normally done on soft paint. On harder paint, the Light Purple pad with a finishing polish can usually handle the final polish on its own. If the polishing step already gives you the look you want, the finishing step is optional. Test a small section first to see whether the paint needs a finishing step at all.
It works on rotary, long-stroke, short-stroke, and orbital polishers. Keep a pad just for finishing, so no leftover compound mars the final pass.
