The 3D 7.5″ Burgundy Foam Cutting Pad is the most aggressive spider-cut foam pad 3D makes, built to cut even harder than the Dark Purple pad. It takes out swirls, scratches, water spots, and oxidation fast, and it’s sold as a single pad. 3D has since replaced the Burgundy with a white 7.5″ pad, so this is our remaining stock.

Sharp Foam for Fast Cutting

Run your hand over the face of a clean, dry pad and you can feel the sharpness of the foam. That sharp, coarse foam structure is what you want when you need to remove heavy defects quickly.

The Burgundy Foam Cutting Pad cuts fast, and because it’s foam and not fiber, it leaves a nicer finish. Wool pads like the 3D Yellow Wool Cutting Pad still cut faster than any foam pad, so if you don’t need the most aggressive cut, this foam pad is the better choice.

How the Spider-Cut Face Works

The slotted spider cuts flex open as the pad spins. Compound works down into the cuts instead of sitting on top, which gives you longer working time and more contact with the paint.

That same flex moves air over and through the pad. The surface stays cooler, and the face of the Burgundy Foam Cutting Pad holds its shape instead of bowling in.

Pair it with 3D ACA 510 Premium Rubbing Compound. Test a small section first to see how much cut the paint needs before you do the whole car.

When to Use the 7.5″ Burgundy Foam Cutting Pad

A foam cutting pad is the first machine step after washing, drying, and claying. Use the Burgundy Foam Cutting Pad to remove the deepest defects, then follow with a polishing pad such as the 3D 6.5″ Light Purple Foam Pad to refine the finish.

It fits a 7″ backing plate and works on any polisher: rotary, long-stroke, short-stroke, free-spinning, and gear-driven (direct drive). Clean the Burgundy Foam Cutting Pad between panels, since spent compound packed into the foam slows the cut and can mark the paint.

What the Foam Is Built For

Plain foam pads cost less because they do less. Cheap foam pads tear up or bowl inward from the heat of heavy compounding. 3D uses open-cell foam, which is stronger and more tear-resistant, and tunes the foam chemistry for durability and heat and chemical resistance, so the Burgundy Foam Cutting Pad cuts the same from the first panel to the last.
