Description
SM Arnold Velocity Pads 6″ and 7″ Coned Foam Buffing Pads
Premium Pads Without the Brand Name Cost
SM Arnold Velocity Pads, also known as Velocity DX pads, are premium coned Velocity foam pads you can use on cars and trucks. Our top buyers, though, are companies that do the big stuff: airplanes, boats, RVs, semi trucks, trailers, and the like. Choose 6″ Blue, Green, or Yellow pads, or 7″ Yellow and White pads. They run on long-throw DA, regular DA, rotary, and gear-driven (direct drive) polishers.
The Right Price Point for Big Jobs
Besides their huge physical size, airplanes, boats, RVs, semi trucks and trailers can be covered in rivets, sharp edges and tight corners. They wear out polishing pads fast, and sometimes tear them up. When you go through that many pads, price matters more than the name on the box. SM Arnold Velocity pads cost about 50% less than most name-brand pads, so they’re the clear choice for these massive jobs.
Buying for a Big Crew?
We supply large airplane and RV detailing crews who buy these pads by the case of 24. Shop the Green 7″ Velocity pads, case of 24 or the Blue Velocity pads, case of 24. Need another color by the case? Contact us. We take preorders on full cases.
The SM Arnold Name Behind Velocity DX Pads
SM Arnold has been in the cleaning accessories business since 1928, when Sanford “Sandy” Arnold started selling chamois and natural sponges. Today the company is in its fifth generation of family ownership. It makes and imports quality cleaning accessories, from chamois and wash mitts to buffing and polishing pads.
That means you get premium pads from a name detailers have known for nearly a century, without the brand-name cost.
Why the Coned Edge on SM Arnold Velocity Pads Matters
All SM Arnold Velocity Pads have a cone-shaped, tapered edge. SM Arnold designed it for better balance, longer pad life, and better surface contact under the force of a long-throw polisher.
The tapered edge keeps the backing plate from touching the surface you’re working on. It shapes itself to any panel and fits into tight areas with ease. On an aircraft, a boat, an RV, or a trailer, that helps when you’re working around rivets, seams, and body lines all day.
What SM Arnold Velocity Pads Are Made Of
SM Arnold Velocity Pads are made with the same technology used in the name brands: high-density reticulated (open-cell) polyester foam for strength and airflow. The open cells let the pad breathe and keep steady lubrication between the pad and the surface. Your compound keeps feeding onto the work area as you buff, so you spend less time buffing and use less product.
Long-throw polishers with a 15mm or 21mm throw put a lot of stress on a pad’s foam. A regular foam pad can make the machine feel off-balance and wear out fast. SM Arnold Velocity Pads are built to work in sync with all the popular long-throw polishers. SM Arnold also designed them to work with minimal downward pressure, which means less heat buildup.
Pick the Right Velocity Foam Pad
- Blue 6″ – Heavy Cutting: Our most aggressive Velocity pad. The large-pore, thick-wall foam feels rigid for heavy defects and swirls, then becomes more pliable as you work. Use it for spot repair or heavy paint correction. RV detailers buy the Blue pads for their work.
- Green 6″ – Medium Cut: The second most aggressive pad. It cuts like a foam cutting pad and finishes like a foam polishing pad. It feels softer than the Blue, and its smaller pores cut through moderate defects with minimal swirls, leaving a wax-ready finish. Airplane detailers buy the Green pads.
- Yellow 6″ and 7″ – Polishing and One Step: Very dense foam for general polishing. For most jobs, this is your one-step pad. It also works as the middle step after cutting. Use it to remove light imperfections, apply a light polish, or apply a cleaner wax.
- White 7″ – Finishing: SM Arnold’s finishing pad, for the final polish, extra gloss, and applying wax or sealant.
Sizes and Fit
The 6″ Blue, Green, and Yellow pads have a 6″ polishing surface and fit a 5″ backing plate. The 7″ Yellow and White pads fit a 6″ backing plate. Each pad has a hook-and-loop back for quick pad changes.
How to Use SM Arnold Velocity Pads
Center the pad on your backing plate, add your compound or polish, and work one section at a time. Let the machine do the work. These pads are made to run with light pressure, so there’s no need to lean on the polisher.
Tip: Keep a stack of SM Arnold Velocity Pads in each color on the cart. On an aircraft, a boat, or a big rig, a fresh pad keeps the job moving when one wears out or tears.
